What is a green teamer?
The Celtics are up 1-0 in the Eastern Conference finals after stealing game 1 over the Pacers. The Celtics were 10 point favorites and didn’t cover. They turned the ball over, missed free throws and were bad defensively on the pick n roll. At the end of the 4th quarter with the Celtics trailing, Jayson Tatum missed two shots to tie or win the game. This is something he has been criticized for, but if I bring up times he has won games I’m called a green teamer. I wanted to looking into what exactly that is.
Green Teamer
A fan of the BostonCeltics who blindly follows the team and believes any call against the team is a bad call or any move made by the general managter is a great move.
Broadcaster Tommy Heinsohn is a classic green teamer. He believes every call that goes against the Boston Celtics is part of an agenda by the referees to make the team lose.
I wouldn’t consider myself this at all. I am from Boston, as a kid I watched Larry Bird as he was laying on his back most of the time. My favorite player was Reggie Lewis and in the late 90’s and early 2000’s the Celtics were a joke. I played basketball in high school and everyone’s favorite player was Allen Iverson. Paul Pierce and the Celtics went on a run in 2002 and then they blew up the team. For most of my life the Celtics have been a mediocre basketball team. In 2007, I began my radio career at 1510 the zone. The station just lost the rights to the Celtics as the flagship station and 17 years later I’m now the studio host for Celtics radio network. I watch almost every game and have been very critical of the team. I have also believed since since October that the Celtics are the best team in the NBA. I labeled them “front runners ” as to how their style of play can lead them to a championship. I was mocked for it, of course.
I haven’t enjoyed the commentary surrounding the Celtics team. Many are not wrong to have their doubts about the team. They haven’t played many close games and they do have a track record of not winning the big games. The player who takes the most criticism win or lose is Jayson Tatum. After winning game 1, the national media said he was terrible. Despite scoring 10 points in overtime and sealing the victory with clutch shots. Steven A Smith said their offense was the worst he seen, yet they scored the most point in a game this playoffs. I still hear “Tatum isn’t tough, He cant lead teams, He doesn’t show up when it matters”. The facts are he did all of those things in game one. Green Teamer!
The Celtics may be boring, I understand the national media can’t find their storylines. I’m just giving you the facts about the team. The facts get in the way or other agendas. If being right is considered a green teamer then so be it. I’ll be sitting at the kids table with my pizza & hoodsie cup ice cream.
