Oshae Brissett option decision begins Celtics’ offseason
Forward Oshae Brissett declined his player option for 2024-2025, as the Boston Celtics’ offseason gets underway.
It’s been a week since the Boston Celtics officially won the 2023-2024 NBA Championship, and already the page is starting to turn towards putting a team together to repeat. Most of the roster – including the top six players in the rotation – all remain under contract in Boston, but some key reserves are set to hit free agency in a few weeks.
That list now includes forward Oshae Brissett. Over the weekend, the 26-year-old opted out of his $2.5 million player option for 2024-2025, as reported by NBA insider Keith Smith. According to Smith, Brissett “may still return to Boston, but will now have the opportunity to explore free agency.”
The Celtics first signed Brissett as a free agent last summer. He played in 55 games for the Celtics this regular season, making one start. In 11.5 minutes per game he averaged 3.7 points and 2.9 rebounds while shooting a career-high 44.4 percent from the floor and 27.3 percent from three. He also came off the bench 10 times in the playoffs.

Brissett isn’t the only backup Celtics wing with a chance to hit free agency. The team has a $2.1 million option for Sam Hauser they need to decide on by June 29. If the Celtics want to keep him they could pick up the option, but also could decline it in the hopes of working out a long-term deal, an option presented by NBC Sports Boston’s Chris Forsberg on Monday.
Beyond Oshae Brissett and Sam Hauser at the wing position, the Celtics also have a $2.2 million option on center Neemias Queta. Other pending free agents include centers Luke Kornet and Xavier Tillman (who are set to be unrestricted free agents), and guard JD Davison (who would be a restricted free agent). Meanwhile, Jayson Tatum and Derrick White will be eligible for contract extensions.
