Tweets from training camp: Jonnu Smith Shines, Mac Jones latest, Kyle Dugger Struggles
Zolak, Ted Johnson, and Hardy were live at Gillette Stadium on Friday, watching day 3 of training camp as Jonnu Smith put together a big day, Mac Jones dominated 7-on-7s, and Kyle Dugger was being torched in the redzone.
Patriots 3rd practice quick hits:
— Mike Reiss (@MikeReiss) July 29, 2022
🏈 No Brian Hoyer, so more work for Bailey Zappe. Highlight: Back corner TD to Ty Montgomery. Lowlight: INTs by Adrian Phillips/Justin Bethel in EZ.
🏈 Mac’s 1st INT of camp (miscommunication w/ Jakobi).
🏈 Jonnu/Hunter give Kyle Dugger fits.
Mac Jones was 7-for-8 in 7-on-7s today and 6-for-11 in 11s, with a couple passes that were completed but out of bounds

Bailey Zappe was 1-for-2 with an INT in 7s and 5-for-7 with an INT in 11s. His corner TD to Montgomery was one of the plays of the day
Brian Hoyer was absent
That’s a wrap up on day three. Some #Patriots notes:
— Evan Lazar (@ezlazar) July 29, 2022
- Mac on fire during 7s. Dropped dimes to Jonnu, Nixon, Bourne. Defense evened it out in 11s.
- Best day so far for Jonnu. Had two terrific catches over Kyle Dugger in 7s.
- 3 INTs for DEF today: Mills, Phillips, Bethel
- More Jakobi Meyers today. Had a few catches in team on throws underneath. Did have a miscommunication that led to Mac’s INT.
— Evan Lazar (@ezlazar) July 29, 2022
- Mills remains very competitive in coverage. Has been really good through three days.
- Shaun Wade and Marcus Jones both getting reps in the slot.
I had the Patriots offense 3 for 10 with 3 sacks, one INT (Bethel with pads on in front of Thornton from Zappe) in final red zone period today. Others may have a slightly different opinion. Jones to Henry TD the highlight. No Hoyer. Bledsoe in for McCourty (vet rest apparently).

A few mid-practice observations on Day 3 of @Patriots training camp:
— Bob Socci (@BobSocci) July 29, 2022
+ While rookie Marcus Jones mishandled a punt as a returner, he got extensive reps with regulars in 11/11 work. Showed versatility at corner & safety and communicated defense on several snaps…

Another day, another impressive body control catch from DeVante Parker

The #Patriots are now gathered across both fields as Marcus Jones and Tre Nixon alternate catching punts before the entire team while holding 1, then 2, 3 and now 4 (!) footballs.

Sprints for the offense or defense may be at stake. https://t.co/qTjxLye1ff
Lmao. Marcus Jones just caught a punt with 3 footballs stuffed in his jersey, looking like he had an All-Pro beer belly, and a fourth in his left arm. Tre Nixon followed.
— Andrew Callahan (@_AndrewCallahan) July 29, 2022
OL Cole Strange vs. DaMarcus Mitchell wasn’t as pretty, but Strange did leap on an unsuspecting Bill Belichick in celebration after fielding a punt while holding 1 football. That was great.

Patriots center David Andrews is back off PUP. Same with punter Jake Bailey.

Players are in shells today, possible sign of a slight ramp-up. Also it's the hottest day so far. 🫠 pic.twitter.com/PFmPH13rOV

#Patriots training camp Day 3:
— Andrew Callahan (@_AndrewCallahan) July 29, 2022
🏈Heavy special teams, red zone practice.
🏈Mac Jones 13/19 INT, Bailey Zappe 6/9
🏈INTs: Mills, Bethel
🏈Sacks: Team 2, Judon
🏈PBUs: Wade
🏈Jakobi Meyers led the team in catches (4), but also may have caused Jones' INT, an option-route mix-up.
