Nantucket Votes To Make All Beaches Topless
Tops were voted optional for all people at beaches on Nantucket. The proposal to make all Nantucket beaches topless was put forth by a seventh-generation Nantucketer and passed at the annual Town Meeting with a vote of 347-242.
The passed proposal will now be brought to the state’s Attorney General for review. If given the nod, the proposal will go into effect and tops will be optional at all beaches.
Current state law does not permit women to go topless at beaches. The penalty for this offense currently is up to three years in prison and a fine of up to $300.
