Mazz: Celtics inquiring about front-office executive availability
Even though they’re about to begin the 2021 NBA Playoffs, the Celtics front office is already starting to plan for 2021 according to 98.5 The Sports Hub’s Tony Massarotti. During the end of the three o’clock hour of Felger & Mazz on Wednesday, Mazz shared some info regarding the Celtics’ upper management.
“From what I understand, the Celtics have been calling around a little bit,” Mazz said, clarifying the team has been inquiring about the availability of front office personnel around the league. “I don’t know that it means, maybe this is standard operating procedure, but they’ve made some phone calls.”
In a tweet following the conversation, Mazz expanded saying the Celtics aren’t looking to replace Danny Ainge. Instead, the goal is to create a situation where “Ainge doesn’t have to handle the day-to-day grind as much.”
If the Celtics were to look to add to their front office, a name to watch could be Masai Ujiri, as pointed out by Jim Murray. Ujiri won NBA Executive of the Year in 2013, and led the building of the 2019 Toronto Raptors championship team. His contract with the Raptors expires this offseason.
The Ainge news isn’t the only whisper Mazz is hearing out of the Celtics camp. You can listen to the full segment below, starting at 32:17.
