Head Coaching Interviews For McDaniels, Patricia Revealed
The Josh McDaniels interview schedule is here, as are the plans for Matt Patricia and Brian Flores. Even with the Patriots gearing up for another Super Bowl run, the coordinators have a busy slate of interviews ahead.
It’s already known that the Colts are interested in McDaniels for their vacant head coaching gig. They already spoke with McDaniels on Wednesday, according to the NFL Network’s #Patriots assistant interview plans: #Giants to Matt Patricia & Josh McDaniels Friday. ... #Colts talked with McDaniels last night. ... #Bears slated for McDaniels on Friday. ... #AZCardinals set for Patricia & LBs coach Brian Flores Saturday. #Lions get Patricia this weekend.
Defensive coordinator Matt Patricia also drew interest from the Giants, in addition to the Lions and Cardinals. Furthermore, linebackers coach Brian Flores is set to meet with Arizona. As for Thursday, the coaches attended practice with the rest of the team.
Josh McDaniels Interview Schedule
The Giants will interview both McDaniels and Patricia on Friday. According to Rapoport, the Bears are also talking to McDaniels on Friday.
Patricia and Flores, meanwhile, will interview with the Cardinals on Saturday. The Lions will reportedly meet with Patricia “this weekend.”
According to the Boston Herald’s From what I understand about Josh McDaniels, his priorities have remained intact with coaching vacancies. Same as in past years, he won’t jump at a job just because it’s offered. It’ll need to be the perfect situation. Colts, Bears, Giants will have to make a solid pitch.
All in all, this won’t be a “distraction” for McDaniels, Patricia, Flores, or anyone in New England. Head coach interviews during the playoffs are a normal occurrence. And it didn’t hurt McDaniels or the Patriots last year, either. But as far as the prospects of the Patriots losing coaches to head coaching gigs, the coming offseason is perhaps the most intriguing one yet in the Bill Belichick era.
