Zolak & Bertrand

On Wednesday’s edition of Zolak & Bertrand, Scott Zolak explained why Bill O’Brien will let Bill Belichick be himself again.

  • Bill Belichick gets to be like Jimmy Johnson now

Hardy: What does Bill O’Brien being back do for Bill Belichick? I asked you before the break what you thought that would do for the head coach and his ability to change the way he does things.

Scott Zolak: Allows him to be a hell of a just a head coach. They say, What does that mean? He’s been the head coach. Yeah, he’s been the head coach, but he’s done it with the defense in mind I think for 80% of his time here. He’s a defensive minded head coach. Watch the way he operates in practice. Watch the in-betweens, you know, the sideline adjustments down on one knee with the white pad, drawing stuff up for the defense, calling them up. How about dealing with Mac Jones on one knee throughout the course of this year? Because, you know, we know we’re not right on offense. Now, you got an offensive guy that handles the offense. Your son is going to be calling plays for the defense. Jerod Mayo will oversee that along with other things. Make sure special teams units are good. You know the title of assistant head coach, make sure with a defensive mind, former defensive player, former defensive coordinator even though he wasn’t named, will oversee all that and Bill gets to sit back and twirl the whistle a little bit like Jimmy Johnson and be a head coach and overseer of everything.
