Zolak & Bertrand

On Wednesday’s edition of Zolak & Bertrand, Beetle voiced that Matt Patricia will never be a head coach again.

  • Never again...

Marc Bertrand: The hopes of Matt Patricia becoming a head coach again following Detroit were zero and I think that if there’s a path to get back to being a head coach in this league now, you either have to be a former player who is really exceptional as a leader on the defensive side. See Jerod Mayo or you have to be an offensive minded coach who can coach offense and help, you know, grow quarterbacks. That’s how you get head coaching gigs. Look at all the guys who are being hired in this league. It’s become increasingly more difficult to get hired as a head coach, as a defensive coach. And so the same way, I guess Josh McDaniels reproved himself when he came back and was the offensive coordinator for all these years before going back to a head coaching role with the Raiders. Patricia would have to do that, but he wasn’t going to do it on the defensive side of the ball. So if he was motivated to do something as a coach again, it would probably have to be a switch. And here we are, ugh.

    Scott Zolak: Ta-da!

Marc Bertrand: Not getting a head coaching job based on this performance. And I don’t think he’s going to be in line to get a head coaching job ever again. But that’s me. I’m not an NFL owner.
