New special teams coordinator credits Patriots as coaching inspiration
Over the course of this week, the New England Patriots have been releasing videos with early comments by their new trio of coordinator hires. On Wednesday the team posted a clip of new offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt, followed by one of new defensive coordinator (promoted from defensive line coach) DeMarcus Covington on Thursday.
Friday afternoon the Patriots wrapped up the series with a one-minute snippet of an interview with new special teams coordinator Jeremy Springer. While highlighting the new coaching is mainly about looking forward, Springer actually takes a look back at Patriots’ teams of the past in his most notable comment.

“As a football fan, growing up, seeing the success this team has had on special teams, that’s one of the reasons I got into special teams,” Springer says, overlayed by clips of Adam Vinatieri’s Snow Bowl kick, longtime Patriots special teams captain Larry Izzo, and a field goal block by Jamie Collins, and the Dan Connolly kick return.
“Seeing you guys in the past have such success, seeing Matthew Slater doing his thing, and still doing his thing,” Springer continued.
