Patriots reportedly finalizing deal with assistant offensive line coach
As the New England Patriots work on filling out their offensive and defensive positional coaches, they’re nearing a deal with an assistant positional coach to close out the week. According to Mike Giardi of Boston Sports Journal, the team is finalizing a deal to hire former Carolina Panthers assistant offensive line coach Robert Kugler.
Giardi didn’t specify which role Kugler would have on the Patriots’ coaching staff, but assistant offensive line coach would make the most sense. The Patriots hired Scott Peters as their offensive line coach earlier this week.

Kugler,31, spent the last two seasons in Carolina as an assistant offensive line coach, and prior to that spent one season in the same role with the Houston Texans. He began his coaching career at the college level. Kugler played college football at Purdue where he started 43 games as a center, and later had a brief stint with the Buffalo Bills before getting into coaching.
According to Giardi, Kugler “is well-respected” around the league and “seen as a rising star who could become an offensive coordinator down the road.” He’s the coach to join the Patriots’ staff who seems to be on an offensive coordinator trajectory, along with new quarterbacks coach T.C. McCartney.
