What Wednesday’s Patriots injury report says about Mac Jones’ decreased reps
Quarterback Mac Jones role was significantly reduced at practice on Wednesday, with The Boston Herald later reporting that Bailey Zappe took ‘most of the reps’ during the session. Wednesday’s injury report seems to confirm that change is performance based, rather than due to an injury to Jones (who was pulled from the game last week for the fourth time this season).
Jones was not among the 12 players listed by the New England Patriots on Wednesday’s injury report. That indicated that he is fully healthy as the team changes the distribution of reps.

Of the 12 Patriots listed, two did not practice. Wide receiver Demario Douglas (concussion) and wide receiver/running back Ty Montgomery (illness) both missed Wednesday’s session.
Five of the 10 limited players are new additions to the report this week. They are running back Ezekiel Elliott (thigh), wide receiver Kayshon Boutte (shoulder), center David Andrews (foot), guard Sidy Sow (ankle), and linebacker Chris Board (back).
In addition, tackle Trent Brown (ankle/chest) had a chest injury added to his previously-listed ankle injury. Other players back on the report are offensive lineman Riley Reiff (knee), defensive lineman Deatrich Wise (shoulder), linebacker Ja’Whaun Bentley (hamstring), and special teamer Matthew Slater (ankle).
On the other side of the injury report, the Los Angeles Chargers were without three players on Wednesday. Wide receiver Keenan Allen (quad), tight end Nick Vannett (concussion), and linebacker Khalil Mack (not injury related/rest) were all out.
