Patriots boost trenches with Saturday roster moves
Ahead of their matchup with the Washington Commanders on Sunday the New England Patriots made a pair of roster moves. They’ve added two linemen – one on offense, one on defense – to their roster for Week 9.
With the first move, the Patriots signed defensive tackle Jeremiah Pharms to their active roster from the practice squad. Pharms had already been elevated from the practice squad the maximum of three times this season.

Pharms, 27, joined the Patriots last season and was signed to the practice squad after training camp. He appeared in his first NFL game earlier this year, and in 23 snaps over three games has one tackle this season. The 6-foot-3, 300 pound defensive tackle now has his first full NFL contract after starting out at NAIA Friends (KS) University followed by stops in the CIFL (indoor football) and USFL.
The Patriots already had an open roster spot before signing Pharms. Offensive tackle Calvin Anderson was placed on IR on Friday due to an illness. Anderson started the first two games of the year at right tackle for the Patriots, and appeared in three more as a backup before missing the last two weeks.
To restock their tackle depth, the Patriots are elevating Conor McDermott from the practice squad for Sunday. McDermott spend training camp with the Patriots after being the starting right tackle down the stretch last season, but was released with an injury settlement. He re-signed with the team last month. This will be McDermott’s second practice squad elevation, although he didn’t get into the game last week.
