The New England Patriots issued their final injury report of the week on Friday, ahead of their Week 5 matchup with the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. After having identical reports Wednesday and Thursday the Patriots made two changes to the injury report on Friday – including one involving an offensive starter.
After not being listed on the report Wednesday and Thursday this week, starting left tackle Trent Brown (chest) was limited on Friday. He’s one of 10 players listed as questionable for Sunday’s game.

Of the nine other players who are listed as questionable for the week, six are on the active roster in running back Rhamondre Stevenson (thigh), offensive lineman Cole Strange (knee), defensive linemen Christian Barmore (knee) and Davon Godchaux (ankle), and cornerbacks Jonathan Jones (ankle) and Shaun Wade (shoulder). Mark Daniels of MassLive reported earlier on Friday that Jones is expected to return this week after missing the last three games.
The other three players listed as questionable were all designated to return off IR or PUP this week, in offensive lineman Riley Reiff (knee), defensive lineman Trey Flowers (foot), and special teamer Cody Davis (knee). In order to be eligible to play this week the team would need to add those players to the active roster by 4 p.m. on Saturday. There are two active roster spots expected to open up, with Christian Gonzalez (shoulder) and Matthew Judon (elbow) both ruled out for the game but not yet put on IR with what are reported to be season-ending injuries.
As for the Patriots’ other change to the injury report, running back Ty Montgomery (illness) was removed all-together. Montgomery was limited on Wednesday and Thursday this week.
For the Saints, three players are already ruled out for Sunday in tight end Juwan Johnson (calf), tackle Landon Young (hip), and safety Lonnie Johnson (hamstring). Four players are questionable including quarterback Derek Carr (right shoulder) and starting guard Andrus Peat (concussion).

Getting back on track: Patriots vs. Saints What To Watch For
Throughout this week, New England Patriots players and coaches have stressed the need to move on from last week’s blowout loss and not let it linger. Their path to getting back on track and digging out of a 1-3 hole begins this Sunday, when they host the New Orleans Saints.
The Saints come into this game in an interesting spot as well. They’re 2-2, have lost two games in a row after winning two to start the season.

This will be the second time the Patriots face the Saints in the post-Tom Brady era. New Orleans visited Gillette Stadium in 2021, and beat the Patriots 28-13.
Things will look a little different this time around though. That 2021 season was the final year for the Saints under long-time head coach Sean Payton. Dennis Allen, who was the defensive coordinator in 2021, has since taken over as the head coach. The Saints have also turned over much of their roster, as Bill Belichick pointed out this week.
“They’ve done a good job in really maintaining the program they’ve had over the last three years. They’ve done a really good job with the team. They’re well balanced. This is a solid team,” Belichick explained when breaking down the Saints on Wednesday morning. “Mickey [Loomis, GM] and Dennis have acquired a lot of players here to, say, compensate for some of the losses they’ve had. You know, drafted well. So, a really, really solid group here.”
So, the Patriots should expect a mix of old and new when the welcome the Saints into Gillette Stadium this Sunday. As we get started with this week’s What To Watch For though, let’s focus on something that was a deciding factor in that 2021 matchup…
