Report: Raiders expected to hire Patriots duo to lead organization
In a pair of moves a week in the making, the Las Vegas Raiders are expected to hire Patriots’ offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and director of player personnel Dave Ziegler as their new head coach and general manager, respectively. The McDaniels hire was first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Ziegler’s by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
The Raiders’ reported interest in McDaniels goes back to last week, but momentum truly picked up on Thursday when the team formally requested to interview him and multiple sources tabbed him as the favorite for the job. He and Ziegler were viewed as a package deal. Ziegler had interviewed with the Raiders earlier in the week. McDaniels met with the team over the weekend in Vegas.
This will be McDaniels’ second stint as a head coach, he previously led the Denver Broncos from 2009-2010. He began working with the Patriots in 2001, becoming offensive coordinator in 2005 until departing for Denver. He resumed the role upon returning in 2012.
