Jayson Tatum named Eastern Conference Player of the Week
The Celtics came together and played some of their best basketball of the season last week, winning three of their four games. It shouldn’t be a surprise that their run lined up with some excellent performances from their best player, Jayson Tatum.
On Monday the NBA recognized Tatum’s efforts, naming him Eastern Conference Player of the Week. It’s the third time in his career Tatum has earned Player of the Week recognition, and the second time this season.
During the four-game stretch, Tatum averaged 31.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game, and recorded three double-doubles. His most memorable performance came on Friday, when he dropped a career-high 53 points in an overtime win against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Trending back further than last week, Tatum’s numbers have been on an upswing as he gets further removed from his COVID diagnosis in early January. So far this season, he’s averaging a career-high 25.7 points per game and is the Celtics leading scorer.
