Massachusetts state Senator Eric Lesser joins Zolak & Bertrand to discuss the future of sports gambling in the Bay State.
Senator Lesser, chairman of the Joint Committee on Economic Development and Emerging Technologies, has introduced new legislation to legalize sports betting in Massachusetts.
“The idea here is to bring sports betting into the daylight, legalize it and, in a real-time way, monitor it so that potential violations or problems can be quickly identified and dealt with,” Lesser said in a press conference last week.
Lesser told Marc Bertrand and Scott Zolak that he’s not against betting on college sports, but would rather launch legalized sports betting with professional sports leagues to start.
“Let’s get it started, it’s now been almost three years of debate about this. I’d rather us get something up and going, said Lesser. “Let’s start with the pro teams, and if it goes well, you can always have a conversation about expansion later.”
