Max Kellerman is arguably the No. 1 media villain to Patriots fans. But on the Celtics, particularly Al Horford, he has a shockingly positive take.
To be sure, Kellerman’s trolling about Tom Brady continues to be insufferable when it comes up. But trolling is often in the eye of the beholder. Celtics fans will have a hard time disagreeing with Kellerman’s assessment of Horford, who dominated in his matchup against the Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo in the Celtics’ 112-90 win on Sunday in Game 1.
“Horford outplayed Giannis just as he did to Embiid last year,” Kellerman says in the above video from ESPN’s “First Take”. “Horford is showing himself to be, in these playoff situations, [a] Hall-of-Fame caliber player. He played like that last year against Embiid. He’s doing it to Giannis this year. That’s not an excuse for Giannis. Giannis has got to be better.”
Giannis did score 22 points on Sunday, but he shot just 7-for-21 from the field and 5-for-10 from the free-throw line. Not good enough for the guy who’s likely to win the MVP this season. It will be interesting to see how he and the Bucks respond to Sunday’s shellacking.
As for Kellerman, he’s bound to make someone mad with that take. Bucks fans and Giannis freaks can’t be happy about it. The Hall of Fame thing? It might not be as absurd as it sounds. Other recent big men to be inducted in Springfield include Yao Ming, Dikembe Mutombo, Alonzo Mourning, and Dennis Rodman. Vlade Divac will be inducted this fall.
So maybe Kellerman isn’t as much of a troll as he seems?
No?
OK, that’s fair. But this take is still a big step up from passing gas on the air and then denying it.
