TD Garden issues statement, announces more postponed/canceled events

The offices of TD Garden were closed on Thursday afternoon.
And it was just the first of many desolate days on Causeway in the coming days and weeks, as the arena has announced some additional cancellations and postponements — on top of all upcoming Boston Bruins and Boston Celtics games with both the NHL and NBA suspended indefinitely — as the nation does its best to stop the rapid spread of COVID-19.
In addition to the postponement of all upcoming NHL and NBA games, TD Garden announced that the MIAA Hockey tournament scheduled for Mar. 15 has been canceled along with the Hockey East championships scheduled for Mar. 20 and Mar. 21. It’s some absolutely devastating news for these student-athletes, especially the seniors in each group getting ready for the final games of their competitive careers, as captured by Arlington High head coach John Messuri doing his best to deliver the news to his team in a positive manner (honestly, this was some great real-talk from the coach).
The arena also postponed the Mar. 19 Billie Eilish show and the Michael Buble concert scheduled for Mar. 25.
“For postponed events, ticketholders should retain their ticket for a future date to be announced,” the arena noted. “For announced canceled events such as Hockey East, guests may receive refunds at point of purchase. We appreciate the understanding and patience of our fans, guests and partners during this unprecedented time.”
The arena also released a (mostly cncouraging) statement regarding the Mar. 6 game between the Celtics and visiting Utah Jazz, which featured two NBA players that tested positive for the virus in Utah’s Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell.
“TD Garden and Boston Celtics have talked with health officials who assured us that based on the affected players’ health statuses, it is highly unlikely that anyone from the Celtics team came into contact with them while they were contagious,” the arena’s statement read. “Furthermore, the risk is low for guests, players and associates who were at the Celtics game on Friday, March 6 and events thereafter.”
Regardless, the Celtics have since been encouraged to self-quarantined through the weekend.
