Revolution Extend Unbeaten Streak to 14 Games at Home After Defeating Red Bulls 1-0
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (August 30, 2023) – The New England Revolution (13-5-7; 46 pts. – 2nd in East) defeated the New York Red Bulls (7-11-8; 29 pts. – 12th in East), 1-0, on Wednesday night at Gillette Stadium. New England extended its home unbeaten run to 14 games, improving to 10-0-3 this season, led by Giacomo Vrioni’s sixth tally and fourth game-winning goal of the season. Earl Edwards Jr., starting in goal for a second straight match, recorded a pair of saves to help earn the team’s eighth clean sheet of 2023.
In the team’s sixth consecutive home win in league play, New England found the scoresheet at the half-hour mark as Mark-Anthony Kaye sent a through ball up the left flank to a streaking Vrioni, who outran his defender before tucking a left-footed shot inside the far post. The goal was the Albanian’s sixth of the MLS season and his team-high ninth tally in all competitions. Vrioni finished with a team-high three shots on target on the night. The assist was Kaye’s first as a member of the Revolution in his sixth consecutive start since joining the team.
Midfielders Nacho Gil and Tomás Chancalay earned their first starts of 2023, with the latter making his home debut. Chancalay logged his first MLS minutes last Saturday as a substitute. Defender Omar Gonzalez marked his 250th MLS start with a second consecutive 90-minute outing and a team-high four interceptions. Dave Romney, who continues to play every minute of the 2023 season for the Revolution, controlled the match with a game-high six clearances.
