Zolak & Bertrand: Porter’s playlist picks surprise Zo
As The Rolling Stones head into Foxborough on Thursday night, the Revolution are on their way out of town with a visit to Nashville SC on the docket for this Saturday night. Coming off another loss at home on the weekend, a 1-0 defeat to New York City FC, Head Coach Caleb Porter has still not been getting much satisfaction on the scoreboard, but the first-year manager was encouraged by the latest performance, nonetheless.
“We had a good game,” Porter said. “It doesn’t show up in the result. New York City is one of the better teams in the league right now and we completely shut them down defensively. In the attack, we had the better of it. We were in great spots to score. We just didn’t find the right path or that precision technically on the finish.
“It’s another game, yeah, you don’t get the win, but when you look at the film, you show the guys all these great moments and good play. There is a lot of hope. Even over the last four games, I feel like it’s percolating and ready to boil over.”
The Revolution will get another chance to finally convert these better performances into points when they visit the Music City on Saturday night, an 8:30 p.m. kickoff at GEODIS Park. For Porter, a self-proclaimed country fan, the music scene in Tennessee might be more his speed than The Rolling Stones. When Zo asked Porter what musical artists they might be surprised to find on his playlist, the Revs’ manager shocked the crew by revealing that he isn’t afraid to mix it up with some rap from time to time.
“I was a big Tupac guy, Biggie, Dr. Dre. Back when I was growing up, those were the rap artists we would listen to in high school,” Porter said. “There’s a little of that on there, a little old-school rap on there.”
The Revs might need some old-school magic of their own to recapture the playoff-caliber form that fans have become accustomed to in recent years. With a crucial match in Nashville to prepare for, Porter told the crew he won’t be joining Tim McKone at the Rolling Stones show on Thursday night. Instead, he and his squad are fully locked in on three points and a bounceback performance at Nashville.
“There are positive signs, and the guys are fighting,” Porter said. “I’ve seen teams that the group is not fighting anymore…When you start seeing that, there’s no hope. There still is a lot of hope in this group and their attitude has been great. It’s just keeping them confident, that’s the biggest thing when you’re not getting results.”
Saturday’s match airs on MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app in English and Spanish. Listen live on 98.5 The Sports Hub with Brad Feldman and Charlie Davies calling the match.
