Bruins defenseman undergoes knee surgery
The Boston Bruins announced Tuesday that defenseman Jakub Zboril recently underwent season-ending knee surgery to repair a torn ACL. Mark Divver was first to report the news of the surgery.
Zboril played in 10 games with the Bruins in the 2021-22 season, notching three assists. He injured his knee on Dec. 2 against the Nashville Predators after 5:28 of ice time. Dr. Peter Asnis at Mass General Brigham performed successful surgery last Thursday, Dec. 16.
The Bruins had Matt Grzelcyk, Mike Reilly, and Derek Forbort in the lineup on the left side of the defense in their most recent game against the New York Islanders. John Moore remains the likely next man up.
In other news on the blue line, the Bruins also placed Brandon Carlo in the league’s recently enhanced COVID-19 protocol. Carlo becomes the 10th Bruin to miss time due to COVID, as the team becomes one of many that led the National Hockey League and Players Association to pause the season until after the holidays.
As of Tuesday morning, the Bruins’ next scheduled game is for Monday, Dec. 27 against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
