Bruins’ Matthew Poitras dealing with fresh injury
Matthew Poitras was absent from Thursday’s morning skate at Warrior Ice Arena, and head coach Jim Montgomery confirmed that the Bruins forward is in fact dealing with an injury.
Montgomery described Poitras as “day-to-day” when he met with reporters after morning skate in Brighton, but did not elaborate further on what type of injury Poitras is dealing with at the moment. Brad Marchand was also absent from practice after leaving Tuesday’s preseason game with an illness, but Montgomery said the team is just being extra-cautious with him.
Poitras, 20, has registered a goal and five shots in three preseason games. He’s carried an air of determination to stay in the NHL throughout training camp, since returning from shoulder surgery that ended his rookie season prematurely.

The Bruins have lined Poitras up at both center and right wing, and elevated him to a top-line center role with Pavel Zacha and David Pastrnak in the absence of Elias Lindholm. So, it feels like the B’s are doing their best to find a spot for him on the NHL roster. It remains to be seen if this injury would have a chance to disrupt that.
But for now, it’s just day-to-day for Poitras, and Montgomery certainly didn’t sound concerned about anything when he spoke after practice.
The B’s continue their preseason on Thursday night against the Los Angeles Kings, at the neutral site of Videotron Centre in Quebec City. The game will stream live on the Bruins official website.
