Marc Bertrand: Bruins no-showed against the Maple Leafs in Game 5
On Wednesday’s edition of Zolak & Bertrand, Marc “Beetle” Bertrand made it clear that the Bruins no-showed against the Maple Leafs in Game 5.
It was a nightmare…
Marc Bertrand: I think the bigger story about this game is that the Bruins, in a close out game at TD garden in front of a crowd that was ready to go…
Scott Zolak: They were.
They no-showed last night. They were not ready to play. They barely looked engaged in the first period of that game. They knew and should have known that Toronto would play with urgency trying to keep their season alive. Even with all the nonsense that had gone on in the previous games, with guys bickering at each other and the team, you know, appearing to be falling apart. The first, what, ten minutes of a game like that, you know are critical to how that game will go. You have to know that. You know they’re going to give you that last desperate effort. They were talking about it. They knew this. You know they had to get out to the good start. You want to step on their throats in that situation. The first ten minutes of a game like that are critical to the night. And the Bruins couldn’t get the puck out of their own zone. Were turning the thing over left and right. Were helping create shots for Toronto. It was gross. Every single faceoff in that period was in their own end.
Tom Morgan: And they couldn’t win one.
Marc Bertrand: And they had two shots in the first period. Effing nightmare. Nightmare. They were not ready to go.
Scott Zolak: You gave them life. No doubt about it. I mean, there’s life now. It’s a series now. But I’m not as worried. I’m not as worried because I don’t know if this is their DNA. I think it’s a different team. You know, you’ve lost some guys from last year. You are different now. So you can straighten this out. I think you can go up there and win. I do.
