Three New England Patriots players are in position to make their 2024 season debuts on Sunday night. After a trio of roster moves on Saturday, the trio of offensive lineman James Ferentz, tight end Matt Sokol, and defensive back Breon Borders will all dress for the game for the first time this year.
Ferentz was added to the active roster, after the team placed tackle Conor McDermott (concussion) on IR, ending his season. This is Ferentz’s sixth year in New England. Last year he played in 12 games, making three starts.

McDermott played in six games with the Patriots this year, starting five. He rotated with Trent Brown the past month at left tackle.
Sokol is in his second year with the Patriots and fifth in the NFL. He appeared in three games last year, but didn’t record any stats, then re-signed with the practice squad in September after being released following training camp. This is his first practice squad promotion of the season. Sokol could get a chance to play in this game with starting tight end Hunter Henry ruled out with a knee injury.
Borders is in his seventh season in the NFL, after going undrafted out of Duke. He signed with the Patriots in late September after spending training camp with the Atlanta Falcons. This will be his first elevation of the season as well.

Rocky Mountain Christmas Showdown: Patriots vs. Broncos What To Watch For
On Sunday night, the New England Patriots will play their sixth Christmas Eve-day game, and their first ever game on Christmas Eve night. They’ll be in Colorado, taking on the Denver Broncos for their Week 16 matchup.
The Patriots are 4-2 all time on Dec. 24. That includes a 22-18 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals at Gillette Stadium last year. Prior to that they’d won four in a row in 2006, 2011, 2016, and 2017. This is the first time the Patriots will play on Christmas Eve without Tom Brady since their first such game in 1989.

As for this year’s matchup, it will be with a Broncos team the Patriots haven’t played since 2000. This is the first time the two franchises have gone the maximum of three years without playing each other since the early 1990s. Their last meeting was the COVID year in 2020, when the Broncos held on for a narrow 18-12 win at Gillette Stadium.
2020 was a transitionary season for both teams, who have undergone multiple big changes since. We’ll start with one of those changes as we get into this week’s What To Watch For…
