Hootie & The Blowfish Last Played Boston 4 Years Ago, Here’s What Happened
Yesterday, Hootie & The Blowfish announced their 2024 Summer Camp with Trucks Tour. This extensive four-month tour includes a June 21st stop at Fenway Park. It will mark the first time Hootie & the Blowfish have played the Boston area since 2019, and here is what happened on that night.
To start, it was their reunion tour. It was met with much excitement, selling out amphitheaters across the country. In the Boston market Hootie & the Blowfish played the Xfinity Center in Mansfield. Darius Rucker solo shows aside, 2019 was the first time the band was back in the area as a collective unit in ten years. During their 2007 and 2008 runs, the band had been playing smaller venues and clubs. In fact, they played the Cohasset Music Circus (2,000 capacity) during that time.
The band’s triumphant return was well-timed. August 3, 2019 happened to be a Saturday night. To the delight of the packed house, Hootie & the Blowfish treated fans to 23 songs, which included a few singalong covers, setlist.fm details.

The last song in the first set, “With A Little Help From My Friends” featured Barenaked Ladies joining the band on stage. There’s a chance that can happen again at Fenway Park as “The Old Apartment” rockers will be joining Hootie and the Blowfish on select dates, and Boston is one of them.
Also on the bill is Edwin McCain, and rock band Collective Soul. McCain has a long history of touring with Hootie & the Blowfish including back when their hit record Cracked Rear View was at the top of the charts. “Edwin McCain told someone at the time that touring with us felt like summer camp with trucks… and that’s exactly how we want next year to feel, too. We can’t wait for you to join us,” said guitarist, Mark Bryan, via the band’s press release.
