Bailey Zappe will be staying in New England, after all.
As first reported by Patriots QB Bailey Zappe cleared waivers and a return to the team on the practice squad is likely.

Zappe was in-demand after clearing waivers, with offers from seven other teams. But the former fourth-round pick decided to return to New England, where he was 2-0 as the starter his rookie year.

Pelissero also reported that Zappe was “in-demand after clearing waivers” and got offers from seven other teams. Ultimately, Zappe decided that he was better off on the Patriots’ practice squad than another team’s.
According to I'm told the #Patriots preference remains bringing in a veteran option to be the #2 to Mac Jones.

So, if that came to fruition, Zappe would likely stay on the practice squad as the third-string QB.

Zappe struggled to perform at a high-enough level to push Jones for the starting job in training camp, then had a disastrous preseason finale. That made him expendable enough for the Patriots to expose him to waivers. But clearly, the Pats are happy to bring Zappe back and continue to develop him.
Zappe is only one of 16 players expected to sign to the Patriots’ practice squad. Get the latest news and updates below in our live tracker.
