Visualcapitalist.com has released a new list of the safest cities in America. They emphasized that for this study, they looked at “modern-day suburbia,” instead of just “small town America” cities. They also said that while people often think of small towns as safe, “some of the smallest places in the country can actually be among the most dangerous,” citing Bessemer, Alabama, as an example. Regardless, they add that they complied their current list of the safest cities in the U.S. by using FBI data and Census Bureau populations from NeighborhoodScout in 2023.
Before we get to Michigan, let’s look at the safest city in all of America. According to the study, it’s Ridgefield, Connecticut. That town has a population of just 25,011 and a total crime rate of 1.9 per 1,000 residents. Those living there have the chance of being a victim just 1 in 510. The major city nearby is Bridgeport.

So, what Massachusetts cities made the cut for being the safest in America? Franklin is No. 2 on the list. Also appearing inside the top 20 is Marshfield, Arlington, Lexington, Milton, Needham and Wakefield. In fact, Massachusetts has more safe cities than any other state in America, according to this tally. The article states, “One quarter of the safest cities are located in Massachusetts, with the vast majority clustered around Boston.” So, we should have some pride that there are so many safe cities in this state. Florida, MA

The City of Wyoming is located in Middlesex County and often referred to as part of the larger Melrose community. There is a MBTA Commuter Rail station in Wyoming Square. The name “Wyoming” can be traced back to being affiliated with big plains or prairie land. Fun fact – there is also a Wyoming in Kent County, Michigan that holds a population of roughly 76,000 people.
