Jonnu Smith’s new plans for second offseason with Patriots
After signing a four-year contract last offseason, Jonnu Smith’s time on the field leading up to the 2021 season was restricted by injuries, COVID circumstances, and the birth of his child. This year, Smith is committed to getting himself consistently back on the field before week one.
According to Mike Reiss of ESPN, Smith will spend the offseason in New England to participate in voluntary workouts. The 26-year-old looks to make a jump forward in his second season in Foxboro.
Bill Belichick alluded to Smith as one of many players on the roster looking to improve and make an internal impact this season. “[We] spent a lot of money last year,” Belichick said. “Those guys are all young, they’re under contract. I think some of the players that we have on the roster, hopefully, will take a step up.”
Smith caught 28 passes for 294 yards and one touchdown last season for New England. He will look to enhance his impact alongside Hunter Henry in 2022.
