The Patriots started the week by placing one player in the NFL’s reserve/COVID list. Cornerback Shaun Wade was added to the list on Monday, per ESPN’s Mike Reiss.
This move doesn’t come as a surprise given Wade was announced as a late scratch before Sunday’s game against Miami due to an illness. It’s not known whether or not Wade traveled with the team to Miami.
Wade becomes the third player on the Patriots active roster added to the reserve/COVID list, joining tackle Yodny Cajuste and defensive back Myles Bryant. Both Cajuste and Bryant were added to the list last week. Practice squad tackle William Sherman is also on the list.
Acquired by the Patriots via trade late in training camp, Wade has been a healthy scratch for most of the season. He played in three games, recording one tackle on 18 snaps. Wade was originally drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the fifth round last spring.
The Patriots also signed two players to their practice squad, wide receiver Jaylen Smith and cornerback D.J. Daniel. Both players were in Foxborough for free agent workouts last week. With those moves, the Patriots have three open spots remaining on the practice squad.
