Patriots place linebacker on IR, remove Mac Jones from injury report
Shortly after ruling him out for Saturday’s game against the Colts, the Patriots placed rookie linebacker Ronnie Perkins (ankle) on injured reserve on Thursday. The move was first reported by ESPN’s Mike Reiss.
Perkins was a third round pick by the Patriots in this past NFL Draft. He was on the roster but inactive for every game so far this season. He’ll now have to miss at least three weeks, meaning the soonest he could return would be the final week of the regular season.
By placing Perkins on IR, the Patriots opened up a spot on their active roster. They have a number of players currently designated to return who could fill the spot, including linebackers Harvey Langi and Josh Uche. In order to be eligible to play Saturday, a player would have to be activated by 4 p.m. on Friday.
Meanwhile, nine Patriots are listed a questionable for Saturday’s game. That includes running backs Damien Harris (hamstring) and Brandon Bolden (knee), center David Andrews (shoulder), tackles Trent Brown (calf/wrist) and Yodny Cajuste (illness), defensive lineman Christian Barmore (knee), linebacker Ja’Whaun Bentley (ribs), safety Adrian Phillips (knee) and kicker Nick Folk (left knee).
Finally, quarterback Mac Jones (left thumb) and defensive end Chase Winovich (illness) were both removed from the injury report. Jones was listed as a full participant all week, while Winovich missed Wednesday’s practice.
The Colts also ruled out just one player, defensive tackle Antwaun Woods (calf). Starting center Ryan Kelly (knee/illness/not injury related) is questionable. Tight ends Jack Doyle (ankle) and Kylen Granson (not injury related) and linebacker Bobby Okereke (illness) were listed as full participants for Thursday but not given a game status.
