Patriots sign veteran safety to practice squad
Just a day after he worked out for the team as a free agent, safety Sean Davis has reportedly signed with the Patriots. The 27-year-old will join the team as a member of the practice squad.
A second-round pick in 2016, Davis has played six NFL seasons. Five of those came with the Pittsburgh Steelers, including two as a starter. So far in 2021 he’s played for the Indianapolis Colts and Cincinnati Bengals, primarily in a special teams role.
Davis was the only free agent to work out with the Patriots on Tuesday. He was present at the team’s practice on Wednesday, wearing No. 30.
Before Davis’ signing, the Patriots practice squad was already maxed out at 16 players. That means there should be another move coming, either releasing or promoting a player from the practice squad. The Patriots currently have 50 players on their 53-man roster.
