Report: Jonnu Smith’s injury ‘isn’t considered serious’
Jonnu Smith left Sunday’s Patriots training camp practice early due to an injury. However, it now appears the 25-year-old may have avoided any significant damage, with ESPN’s Mike Reiss reporting Smith suffered a low ankle sprain that “isn’t considered serious.”
Smith was injured during 11-on-11 drills. After speaking with the training staff, he walked under his own power to the medical shed, then later on back to the locker room.
According to Reiss, there is “no firm timetable on his return.” Smith has missed just four total games over the course of his four-year NFL career.
The injury comes as the Patriots’ other big money free agent tight end Hunter Henry returned to the field. Henry had previously missed about a week with a shoulder injury before rejoining the team for practice Sunday morning.
