Celtics acquire Kris Dunn and more from Hawks for Tristan Thompson

The Celtics are trading Tristan Thompson to Atlanta for Kris Dunn, and a 2023 second-round pick, sources tell ESPN.

Thompson was then sent by Atlanta to the Sacramento Kings in exchange for Delon Wright, completing the three team deal, according to Woj.

In landing Dunn, the Celtics used the $5 million trade exception created by trading Enes Kanter last season. The move opens up a new trade exception, worth $9.2 million, according to Brian Robb.

Dunn, a native of New London, Conn., has played 231 NBA games between Minnesota, Chicago, and Atlanta. He played only four games for the Hawks in the 2020-21 season as he rehabbed from multiple procedures to treat nagging knee issues. He underwent arthroscopic surgery in December and had a PRP injection in February. He finally made his debut for the Hawks in April.

Thompson played 43 games for the Celtics in 2020-21, and averaged 7.6 points and 8.1 rebounds in 23.8 minutes per game.
