Report: Chase Winovich’s absence from minicamp ‘nothing major’
While Stephon Gilmore’s holdout from Patriots minicamp has drawn the majority of attention, he’s not the only player who has missed time this week. Edge rusher Chase Winovich has also been absent for all three practices this week.
According to NESN’s Doug Kyed, whatever is keeping Winovich away from the team is “nothing major.” The team expects him to be back and ready for training camp in late July.
Winovich’s absence is notable given the depth of talent the Patriots’ have at his position. Between the signings of Matt Judon and Kyle Van Noy, the return of Deatrich Wise, and ascension of Josh Uche, it’s going to be a competitive summer for Patriots’ edge rushers.
Along with Gilmore and Winovich, linebackers Terez Hall and Rashod Berry, and defensive lineman Byron Cowart were not spotted at minicamp this week. No reason has been given for any of their absences.
