It’s the moment you’ve all been waiting for, the Felger & Mazz Big Board quarterbacks! Wrapping up the two weeks of marker tosses, the guys threw for quarterbacks in three separate sessions on Thursday.

After hitting on mid-to-late round quarterbacks with their first two throws, the guys landed on arguably the gem of the draft. Which boom-or-bust top-five QB did they pick? Let’s take a look…

• QB Trey Lance, North Dakota State

  Strengths:

  • Film junkie with high football IQ and an NFL frame.
  • Bouncy feet for accelerated pocket setups.
  • Play-fake aficionado from under center, causing defenders to consistently bite.

  Weaknesses:

  • Gets a little lackadaisical with his feet in quick game.
  • Leaves lower half behind, diminishing his drive velocity.
  • Needs to get his slide game up.

• QB Jamie Newman, Georgia/Wake Forest

  Strengths: 

  • Upside development is there for the molding.
  • Upper-body twitch for quick set and rip on RPOs.
  • Expedites release with quick wrist snap when needed.

  Weaknesses:

  • Pre-release ball pat keys linemen to get hands into passing lanes.
  • Will need work in developing anticipatory throws.
  • Too often an easy pocket target for rushers to find.

• QB Sam Ehlinger, Texas

  Strengths: 

  • Well-built frame is durable and strong.
  • Plays with dirt-dog toughness as a quarterback.
  • Able to go get physical yardage near goal line or to move the chains.

  Weaknesses:

  • Defaulted to hero ball a little too often in 2020.
  • Elongated dip and wind release.
  • Tightly muscled with some restriction in follow-through.
