With the NFL Draft now less than 48 hours away, the Felger and Mazz Big Board closed in on two of the most talked about positions relating to the Patriots heading into this offseason. Quarterbacks will wait until Thursday, but on Wednesday afternoon, the guys threw to pick from this year’s class of wide receivers.

While much to Felger’s chagrin they didn’t land any of the projected first-round picks at the position, at least two of the players have a decent or better chance at being hits. Nico Collins is very similar to N’Keal Harry – who the Patriots drafted just two years ago – and Amon-Ra St. Brown shares some traits with Jakobi Meyers.

Here’s a breakdown of all three receivers added to the Big Board on Wednesday…

• WR Nico Collins, Michigan

  Strengths:

  • Powerful drive strides into his routes.
  • Catches what is thrown his way with soft, natural hands.
  • Consistently plucks the rock away from his frame.

  Weaknesses:

  • Can be a little gradual getting into press release.
  • Turns are too rounded, allowing a pathway for cornerbacks.
  • Forced to wear coverage from start to finish on intermediate routes.

• WR Amon-Ra St. Brown, USC

  Share

  Strengths:

  • Runs routes to create tilt and lean from defenders.
  • Keeps his calm catching with safety ranging toward him.
  • Feel for stacking defender on hip to expand landing zone of football.

  Weaknesses:

  • Has had issues securing catchable throws underneath.
  • Could struggle to knock athletic corners out of route phase.
  • Very little grit in his run blocking.

• WR Tyler Vaughns, USC

  Strengths:

  • Instinctive body control in the air.
  • Can leap, twist and high-point it consistently.
  • Snares the ball with sticky hands.

  Weaknesses:

  • Needs to work on building up his body.
  • Below-average acceleration separating from stems.
  • Disappointing hand strength through contact.
