Sony Michel says he’s “in the best position possible” for Week 1

After missing most of training camp on PUP, Sony Michel says he is now ready to go for the Patriots Week 1 game against the Miami Dolphins next Sunday.
“I would say I am in the best position possible right now to be able to go into Game 1 and be able to perform as best as I can,” Michel told reporters on Sunday. “The coaching staff, the training staff has done a great job preparing me for this opportunity. All I can do is go out there and give it all I have.”
Michel missed about a month of team activities recovering from off-season ankle surgery. With the Patriots depth of talent at running back, it would be easy to fall behind, but Michel doesn’t see it that way.

“I wouldn’t say caught up because I can’t really make up for those days that I lost that those guys got, but I would say I am in a good position where I am able to get better,” he said. “I like where I’m at and I am headed in the right direction.”
After seemingly taking a step back in his sophomore season, “the right direction” is a good mantra for Michel as he gets back into shape following his surgery.
“I would just say I am feeling a day better. Every day is a work in progress,” Michel said. “Beginning of the season, you’re never going to feel like you’re at the best shape. So for me, I am just working to get better. I feel good. I am just going to keep trying to build from there.”
Michel will start the year battling with James White and Rex Burkhead for snaps, with Damien Harris and possibly Lamar Miller being added to the mix at some point. That’s a lot of talent to stay ahead of as Michel looks for a bounce-back year.
