Soccer is returning to Fenway Park this summer.
Liverpool FC, the English Premier League club owned by Red Sox owner John Henry, will return to Boston on July 21 to play a preseason match against Spanish club Sevilla FC.
This marks the third time Fenway will host a Liverpool match. The Reds came stateside for exhibitions against Italian club AS Roma in 2012 and 2014.
Liverpool will be playing three games in the U.S. this summer, with exhibitions also planned at Yankee Stadium and Notre Dame Stadium.
“Pre-season tour is an important time of the year for our first team to prepare for the upcoming season while also providing the opportunity to bring the first team to our fans around the world,” said Billy Hogan, the Managing Director and Chief Commercial Officer for Liverpool FC. “We’re heading to three incredible locations this year. Each of the stadiums has their own deep-rooted heritage similar to our own and we’ll face three great opposition teams in Borussia Dortmund, Sevilla and Sporting CP. This trip to the USA will be very special and we’re really looking forward to having as many of our supporters with us along the way.”
The Reds are currently second in the English Premier League standings, trailing Manchester City by just one point. Liverpool enters the final two weeks of the EPL schedule with 28 wins, 7 draws, and only 1 loss this season.
Tickets for the match are available at redsox.com.
