People have definitely started going back to the movies with summer blockbusters like: Top Gun Maverick, Jurassic World Dominion, Thor: Love and Thunder, and more. But it’s also a great time to get outside with family and friends to check out free outdoor movie screenings.

The number of events have definitely increased over the years, with lots more communities jumping on the bandwagon to offer the popular free outdoor movies. Some are even offering free popcorn and drinks. I don’t know about you, but I will never turn down free popcorn!

First, info on AMC’s $5 movies

Before getting to the free screenings, if you’re also looking to head to the theaters, AMC is offering a special reduced price ticket! You can get movie tickets for $5 at AMC theaters on Tuesdays. Check out more info HERE.

Mayor’s Movie Nights – Free Summer Movie Screenings

One of the fun movie events is the Mayor’s Movie Nights held all across the city of Boston during August and September. Mayor’s Movie Nights are part of the Boston Parks and Recreation Department’s ParkARTS program, and all shows begin at dusk. Here’s the schedule of the parks and the movies that will be shown.

August

2nd: “The Mitchells vs. The Machines” at Jamaica Pond – Pinebank

9th: “Sing 2” Healy Playground in Roslindale)

15th: “Luca” at East Boston Memorial Park

16th: “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” Ronan Park in Dorchester

17th: “Space Jam: A New Legacy” Marcella Playground in Roxbury

22nd: “Encanto”  at the Iacono Playground in Hyde Park

23rd: “Soul” Ramsay Park  in the South End

25th: “Enacnto” 55 Winthrop St., Charlestown

29th: “Raya and the Last Dragon” at Hardiman Playground in Brighton

30th: “Soul” Moakley Park in South Boston

September 1: “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory”  at the Boston Common Frog Pond

Should be a lot of fun, so get your chairs, blankets, and snacks ready for a summer of fun movies. Here are even more free summer movie screenings you can check out throughout the summer.

  • Movies at RiverFront Park

    Free family-friendly movies in Fitchburg! How’s that for a tongue-twister. It’s put on by the Fitchburg Recreation Department and will start after sunset. Be sure to bring your own blankets, chairs, and snacks.

  • Movies on the Hopkinton Common

    The Hopkinton Town Common is the place to be on Thursday nights as the Hopkinton Parks and Recreation Department brings free summer movie nights.

  • Movies on the Worcester Common

    Get to the Worcester Common by 6:30 to check out their free movie nights. You can bring your own chairs, or there is some seating available on the common. Bring your own refreshments, or there are some on-site to purchase.

  • Summer Flicks at Patriot Place

    Patriot Place hosts family-friendly movies on Wednesday nights through the summer. So bring your blanket of chair to check out not only the movie, but some pre-show entertainment as well, beginning at 6pm.  Movies start at sunset.

  • Discovery Museum’s STEM + Movie Nights on the Lawn

    Head to the Discovery Museum for some hands-on STEM activities and movies. Movies will be on the lawn, and frozen treats will be available from VeeBop’s Ice Cream truck. It all starts at 7pm.

  • Movies by Moonlight at Boston Harbor Hotel

    After having to take a couple years off, movie nights are back at the Boston Harbor Hotel. They’ll be held Friday nights featuring both classic and contemporary movies that start at dusk.

  • Sunday Movies at Christopher Columbus Park

    Sunday night, head over to Christopher Columbus Park in the North End. Bring your own chair or blanket, some snacks, and family or friends. Movies start at dusk.

  • Theater Thursdays on Revere Beach

     

    Movie night on the beach! Revere’s Parks and Recreation Department hosts the series with not only movies, but music, popcorn, and cotton candy. The fun starts at 6pm, and movies begin at dusk. Rain dates are the following Friday night.

  • Family Flicks at the Prudential Center

    Every Saturday, check out free, family-friendly movies on the Prudential Center’s South Garden through the summer. Picnic blankets and low beach chairs are welcomed. All movies start at dusk.

  • CX Movie Nights at Maria Baldwin Open Space at CX

    CX Movie Nights are back at Cambridge Crossing. The event is in partnership with the Brattle Theater and East Cambridge Business Association. Free double features in the Maria Baldwin Open Space at CS from 5:30pm – 9:30pm. The event is pet-friendly and will have popcorn and food trucks.

    June 30 – Moana at 5:30 pm and School of Rock at 7:30 pm.
    July 28  – Encanto at 5:30 pm and Mrs. Doubtfire at 7:30 pm.

  • Kung Fu Films at the Chinatown Gate

    The Asian Community Development Organization presents Films at the Gate. There will be three nights, with each night including a live performance, two short films, and the main movie. Check out more on Films at the Gate.

    6:00 PM Performances & martial arts demonstrations
    7:30PM Welcome program
    8:00PM Main feature (timing dependent on sunset for optimal viewing)

    The classic films are action-packed with kung fu scenes and are accompanied by English-subtitles.
