The Boston Celtics will officially be the 2nd seed in the 2023 Eastern Conference playoffs after the Milwaukee Bucks wrapped up the top seed with a win over the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday night. On Thursday’s Felger and Mazz the guys discussed how the Celtics only getting the 2nd seed meant they underperformed in the regular season.

  • This regular season was an underachievement

Mazz: The fact of the matter is they should have been the number one seed. I think you asked me before the season started, what’s the goal? What’s the expectation? I said number one seed and they should get 60 wins. They should be a 60 win team. And I think I even said like, look, whatever it is, it’s the number one seed. You should get the number one seed. You should want that.

Felger: They underachieved this year. They underachieved. And I said this last night on NBC Sports Boston, I said it in the hallway to Eddie House and Tom Giles and Chris Forsberg as they were walking off the set.

Jim Murray: Did they try to take you to Celtics jail as you said it?

Felger: It never crossed their mind that, “Oh. What? What?” And if they think about it, maybe they agree, maybe they disagree, I don’t know. But you’re the best. You’re better than the Bucks, right? You’re better than the Bucks.

    Jim Murray: Yeah.

Felger: Celtics fans. We all agree with this. You are better than the Bucks. I think you’re better than the Bucks. You were as healthy, if not healthier, than the Bucks. And you finished with the two seed, three games behind and you have to go to their court in game seven if it’s a seven game series. That’s an underachievement.

Mazz: And you even held the tiebreaker over the Bucks. They beat them two out of three. They went to sleep the rest of the time. So, look, to me, it’s not really all that great.

    Felger: Oh, my God.

Mazz: The regular season was a fail.
