Bruins drop 4-1 preseason loss to Kings
The Boston Bruins followed up a 4-1 preseason win with a 4-1 preseason loss, dropping their latest contest to the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday at the neutral site of Videotron Centre in Quebec City.
After battling to a scoreless draw in the first period, Kings forward Quinton Byfield scored twice in the second to get L.A. out to a 2-0 lead. B’s forward Patrick Brown scored just 10 seconds after the second Byfield goal to quickly make it 2-1.
The Kings pulled away in the third period on special teams. Adrian Kempe nabbed a shorthanded goal at the 4:51 mark, then Byfield scored again on the power play to complete a hat trick.
The Bruins were without captain Brad Marchand, who is dealing with an illness, and 20-year-old forward Matthew Poitras, who is day-to-day with an undisclosed injury.
Boston returns to Warrior Ice Arena for practice on Friday, then will play their final preseason game on Saturday, against the Washington Capitals in D.C. The Bruins open up the regular season on the road against the defending Stanley Cup Champion Florida Panthers at Amerant Bank Arena.
