Mark-Anthony Kaye: Revs have “Real Chance of Winning Trophies”
Revolution midfielder Mark-Anthony Kaye is enjoying his role as “the new guy in town” after joining the New England Revolution last month.
Kaye, who was acquired by the club via trade with Toronto FC, joined DJ Bean on “The Soccer Show” to discuss his new surroundings in Boston, his first month as a member of the Revolution, and his experience playing in his native Canada.
“Boston has been great,” Kaye said of his first month in New England. “I see nothing but good times here in Boston, I’m excited.”
Kaye’s pro career, which began in Toronto FC’s Academy, includes stints with Los Angeles FC and the Colorado Rapids. Things came full circle when the Canadian international re-joined his hometown club in 2022, returning to TFC, but now with the senior squad.
“It’s an amazing feeling, because you’re playing at home and in front of friends and family that saw you grow up from a little boy into a man,” Kaye said of his tenure with the Reds. “You’re playing at the stadium that everyone is excited to see you at, and that part is great.”
Kaye’s tenure in Toronto had its ups and downs, but the learning experiences are something he carries with him moving forward.
“You have the other side of it where Toronto is an intense sports city, and the fan base can love you one moment and hate you the next moment,” Kaye said. “For me, it was an important moment in my career, but that chapter is closed now. I start to realize why a lot of people from Toronto don’t want to play their sports in Toronto.””
Kaye made his Revolution debut on July 22 at the New York Red Bulls, suiting up for the start in New England’s opening match of the Leagues Cup tournament. He went on to start all four of New England’s Leagues Cup matches, immediately establishing himself as a reliable and versatile option in the midfield.
“I’m coming into a team that’s done well for the last two thirds of the year, and I’m excited to help them going forward,” Kaye told Bean. “I think with the roster we have, we have a real chance of winning trophies and being proud at the end of the year when we look back on what we were able to do.”
Kaye’s career also includes 40 appearances with the Canada Men’s National Team, where he was teammates with former Revolution midfielder Tajon Buchanan at FIFA World Cup 2022TM in Qatar.
“[Buchanan’s] so disciplined and such a quiet guy,” Kaye said. “On the field he’s got a completely different personality. He plays with this flare and hunger. He’s come into his own and when I got to play with him at the national team, it was just amazing to see the quality he was capable of unleashing in seconds. He didn’t get enough praise for what he did with our national team.”
Kaye is set to make his first regular season appearance in a Revolution uniform tonight, August 26, when second-place New England resumes the MLS regular season at CF Montreal. The match kicks off north of the border at 7:30 p.m. ET and is free to watch on Apple TV. Listen live on 98.5 The Sports Hub with Brad Feldman and Charlie Davies calling the action.
