  • The top of the Patriots’ depth chart is set at the tight end position. A year after investing big money in both Hunter Henry and Jonnu Smith, it’s highly unlikely the team would make any major changes.

    But could a depth add be on the way? The Felger & Mazz Big Board picked tight ends on Monday, will any of these players come into New England to back up the blockbuster free agents in 2022?

    Strengths:

    –Smooth separation when stemming vertical routes
    –Athletic to win in the air
    –Dips low and scoops out the low throw

    Weaknesses:

    –Too passive fitting up blocks for early control
    –Dooms outside zone runs with poor backside effort
    –Too gradual snapping off route and getting eyes to the quarterback

    Strengths:

    –Clever release stems and skilled hand usage to slip pressure
    –Speed to threaten seam vertically and hops to snare at the high point
    –Certified tough guy, catching through very heavy contact

    Weaknesses:

    –Lacks desired physicality as in-line blocker
    –Needs to add core strength and determination
    –Would benefit by settling in space more quickly

    Strengths:

    –Looks the part with a proportional, muscular frame
    –Generates pop into blocks from his hips
    –Calls back basketball background with athleticism before and after the catch

    Weaknesses:

    –Landmarks to his block don’t always make sense
    –Powerful defensive ends discard his base block too quickly
    –Has trouble getting off of press
