Bruins handle Blackhawks out in Chicago
The second leg of a back-to-back often spells danger for a team. But for the Bruins, the second leg of a back-to-back has been a lock thus far, as the Bruins took care of the Blackhawks by a 4-2 final out in Chicago on Wednesday night.
With the win, the Bruins are now 3-0-0 when playing the second half of a back-to-back, with all three games coming with travel in between the first and second game, too.
Down just 83 seconds into this contest following an Alex Vlasic scored on just the second Chicago shot of the evening, the Bruins knotted things up before the end of the opening frame by way of a Morgan Geekie strike with just over seven minutes remaining in the period.
The goal would be one of two markers from Geekie in this contest, with a third-period breakaway goal added by the end of the night, and now gives Geekie three goals and an assist over his last five games.
But for the Bruins, the true takeover came in the second period, and from Brad Marchand, with two goals in a span of two minutes and five seconds, including a second one that ultimately held as the game-winning goal by the end of the evening.
For Marchand, it was career game-winning goal No. 81 for his career, bringing him into a tie with former linemate Patrice Bergeron for the second-most game-winning tallies in Bruins history. Up next on the list for Marchand is Bruins legend Johnny Bucyk, who leads the way for the franchise with 88.
In goal, the Bruins’ Jeremy Swayman turned aside 20 of 22 shots thrown his way for his second straight victory. It’s just the second time this season that Swayman has won consecutive starts.
The Bruins will return to action Saturday afternoon when they play host to the Flyers at TD Garden.
