Lori Lindsey: Revolution can “put a complete 90-minute performance together” tonight vs. Philadelphia
The New England Revolution open up a two-game homestand tonight, hosting Eastern Conference opponent Philadelphia Union for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff at Gillette Stadium. Tonight’s match reignites an intense rivalry between a pair of clubs who’ve met twice in the MLS Cup Playoffs over the past four years.
Saturday’s match is FREE to watch on Apple TV in English and Spanish. Listen to the match live on 98.5 The Sports Hub with Brad Feldman and Charlie Davies calling the action.
Former United States Women’s National Team Player and current Apple TV analyst Lori Lindsey will be on the call alongside Chris Wittyngham for Saturday’s match. Lindsey, who joined D.J. Bean on The Soccer Show this morning, feels Saturday’s match is a good opportunity for the Revolution to show the continued progression they’ve displayed over recent matches.
“There’s some promising stuff,” Lindsey said of the Revolution. “You have a world-class attacking midfielder in Carles Gil. You have, what I think is a really interesting profile of players. You don’t have a ton of very similar players, which I think you can lean on even more.
“The way I’m thinking of it for this game is you put a complete 90-minute performance together that you’ve had the week off and Philadelphia’s coming off multiple games in the last several weeks.”
New England, set to begin a crucial stretch of six home games in Foxborough over the next eight matches, split the season series with the Union last season, 1-1-0. The Revolution have picked up points in two of their last three home matches, with a 1-0 win over Charlotte on April 6 and a 1-1 draw with Chicago on March 23.
Gil continues to pace New England’s attack with a team-high four goals scored this season, along with one assist. The Revolution captain netted his first headed goal in last weekend’s 4-2 loss at the New York Red Bulls. Forward Giacomo Vrioni also scored in the match, his second goal of the 2024 season.
The Union fell to New York City FC, 2-1, in a midweek match on Wednesday and are winless over their last six games.
