The New England Patriots are expected to get aggressive at wide receiver this off-season – whether that means players are coming in or heading out.
A new report by Jeff Howe at The Athletic details the Patriots’ plans, as heard by Howe at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine. Howe says that wide receiver is the Pats’ No. 1 priority in free agency. On the flip side, Howe also reported that the Patriots are expected to shop wideout DeVante Parker for a possible trade.

Moving Parker before June 1 would add $3 million in cap space for the Patriots, and $5 million for 2025. If another team is willing to take on Parker’s contract, which is for two years at a base salary of $3.2 million, the Patriots could swap late-round draft picks to get Parker off their books.

As for free agency, the pool has shallowed a bit. Tee Higgins got the franchise tag, while Mike Evans is expected to sign with a contending team that has an established quarterback.
Evans doesn’t sound like an option for the Patriots. That leaves Calvin Ridley, Michael Pittman Jr., Marquise Brown, and Gabe Davis as the best remaining options, provided they don’t also receive the franchise tag by the March 5 deadline. A recent report at MassLive linked the Pats to Texans receiver Noah Brown.

Ranking the top-10 free-agent wide receivers of 2024
Free-agent wide receivers are about to have a great year.
Starting off as one of the strongest receiver markets we’ve seen in years, the pool has shallowed a bit at the position, with arguably the top-2 names – Mike Evans and Tee Higgins – getting a new two-year deal and a franchise tag, respectively. But there are still some talented guys expected to cash in with receiver-needy teams.

So, read below for our top-10 remaining free-agent wideouts. It’s still a list worth knowing…
1. Michael Pittman Jr.

Pittman is more of an inside receiver than outside, but he’s better than that. His size and athleticism makes him more dangerous than your typical slot guy. Pittman racked up a career-best 109 catches and 1,152 yards in 2023, as he continued to be one of the league’s better separators with his route-running and footwork.
A reliable option over the middle of the field for any quarterback, Pittman would be an elite safety net with high-end production for whoever signs him.
