Bruins make emergency recall for extra forward help
The Bruins did not plan on leaving Boston with a bare bones operation up front.
Down to just 12 forwards on their NHL roster following Thursday’s pregame move to sent Anthony Richard back to Providence, the Bruins made a recall ahead of Friday’s departure for Long Island, with forward Marc McLaughlin summoned up from AHL Providence on an emergency basis.

McLaughlin’s NHL recall is his first of the 2023-24 season, and comes amidst a Providence run that’s included six goals and 11 points in 56 games overall, but two goals and four points in his last seven AHL contests.
A North Billerica, Mass. native, McLaughlin has made 13 NHL appearances since signing with the Bruins as an NCAA free agent in 2022, and has recorded three goals, along with 17 hits and 15 shots on goal, over that run.

As noted, this will give the Bruins 13 forwards for their upcoming two-game road swing, which will begin Saturday night on Long Island and wrap up with a Monday night showdown against the Leafs up in Toronto. The Bruins do not plan on returning to Boston in between those games, so this is a move to simply make sure that the Bruins cover all their bases on a personnel front for that trip from the jump.
In the case of Richard, who was looking increasingly solid over his run with Boston, it is worth noting that would have required waivers to be sent back down to the AHL had he played in another game for Bruins.
