Apple TV’s Tony Husband: Orlando presents Revs with “Great way to test yourselves”
Three games remain in the regular season for the New England Revolution before the start of the Audi 2023 MLS Cup Playoffs. Although the Revs have already earned their spot in the postseason, there is still all to play for in a congested Eastern Conference.
Tony Husband, the English play-by-play announcer on MLS Season Pass for tonight’s match between the Revolution and second-place Orlando City SC (free on Apple TV in English and Spanish), joined DJ Bean on “The Soccer Show” this morning to preview the battle for the seeding in the Eastern Conference.
“Pound for pound right now, I think Orlando are playing better than anybody in the league,” Husband said. “This is a great way to test yourselves down there in the still relative heat of Florida this weekend.”
Only five points separate the Revolution from Orlando, as New England is sitting just outside the top-four spots that will determine homefield advantage in round one of the playoffs. A victory down in Florida could prove pivotal for the Revs, who were the most dominant home side in MLS – at least until they were finally defeated in Foxborough this past Saturday, 2-1 by the Columbus Crew.
Including Orlando, the last three games on the Revolution’s schedule are against teams also clamoring for those top seeds. With so much at stake in the season’s final weeks, the Revs cannot afford to look ahead to the playoffs.
“There will be no easy games when it comes to the playoffs, and there will be very little between any of these teams if they’ve got their strongest lineups out,” Husband said of the playoff contenders in the Eastern Conference.
The Revolution enter Saturday’s match on a nine-game unbeaten streak against Orlando, holding a 5-0-4 record over that span, and will hope to continue that form tonight.
