The Soccer Show: Henrich Ravas Finding his Footing in MLS
Through seven games, the 2024 MLS season has not gone to plan for the New England Revolution. Just as they were starting to rack up points with results in two straight games, the Revs are now looking to bounce back from a loss against rivals New York City FC last weekend. They will be hungry for points when they travel north for a battle with Toronto FC this Saturday night.
Revolution goalkeeper Henrich Ravas joined D.J. Bean on “The Soccer Show” this preview the matchup in Ontario and to reflect on the start of his first season in the United States.
“The season has been tough, let’s be honest. We don’t need to hide behind the curtain, it’s been tough,” Ravas said of the start to the season. “The win against Charlotte was really great. I’m a little disappointed that we couldn’t follow through with the New York City game [last weekend]. I felt that the game was there for the taking.
“I feel confident in the team and that we will turn it around to get the results more consistently and get more wins,” Ravas added. “I think it’s been tough, but at the same time, it’s sport. We just need to turn it over and like I said, I believe in the team. I believe we can do it.”
Ravas, who represents the Slovakia National Team, became an MLS newcomer earlier this year when he arrived to New England from Poland’s top-tier division. Revs fans were spoiled by how quickly their last international backstop, Djordje Petrović, emerged as an elite MLS goalkeeper. For Ravas, he feels he is only beginning to adapt to the league, but he is feeling more comfortable every day.
“I knew it was going to be a step up for me in my career. I knew it was going to be the best league I’ve ever played in, so it hasn’t surprised me in that way,” Ravas said. “I’m going to be honest, I have had a hard start and have struggled, but my expectations of myself are that I will give my best in every game. I knew I needed to step up my game to be successful here. I now feel more settled, and I think that I have improved a lot, but there’s still work to do.”
Ravas, to his credit, does not shy away from the heightened pressure that comes with stepping in between the posts for the Revs. The 26-year-old hopes to fulfill those fans’ expectations sooner rather than later.
“Obviously, with the support they give us, they deserve more points than we have,” Ravas said. “But I will do anything in my power to give everything and try to climb the table and get the points whether it’s away games or home games, and to mainly bring the points or keep the points at home.”
The Revolution will look to collect their first win on the road tonight when they take on Toronto FC at BMO Field. Brad Feldman and Charlie Davies will be in the building to call the match on 98.5 The Sports Hub HD2, or watch the action on MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app.
