Sports Hub Underground: Wrapping up the summer in New England sports

The summer is finally over in New England, and what a crappy few months it was. Nothing like a summer where it’s impossible to go outside, whether because of torrential rain or disgusting heat and humidity.
But there’s still been plenty to talk about in the New England sports scene, particularly with the Patriots, but also with the Boston Bruins, as they wind down the quiet time of the off-season and gear up for training camp in September. So Ty Anderson and I got into the latest on the ice and the gridiron as part of the latest episode of the Sports Hub Underground podcast, which you can listen to in the player above.
Here’s a rundown of the overarching topics…
— Bruins winger Jake DeBrusk told NHL.com in a recent appearance at a youth camp that he’s “hoping to stay” with the Bruins long-term. He’s currently in the final year of his contract at $4 million and would be in line for a raise. I find it significant that DeBrusk is willing to say he wants to stay in Boston in the first place, because he easily could have deflected or obfuscated, and he has seemed unhappy here in the past. But what would that deal look like? (16:00)
— The New England Patriots have finalized their 53-man roster and practice squad. That included releasing then bringing back quarterbacks Bailey Zappe and Malik Cunningham. We give our (nuanced and reasonable) takes on the team entering the regular season. (46:40)
— We draft our “Big 3” bad movies that we actually love. Think cheesy action, silly comedy. The kinds of movies that have bad reputations, but special places in our hearts. (1:32:15)
